1. Provide counselling to people to manage the problems that they have in their lives like sickness, loss, unemployment, family problems etc. Social workers provide connections with the community to help the individual with their challenges.
2. Identify the people who need assistance. These can be children, older adults, people who are suffering from mental illness, people with addiction, and families who are living in poverty.
3. Respond to situations like mental health crisis or domestic abuse.
Where do Social Workers Work?
Most social workers work in the office, but they spend a large part of their day visiting clients in their schools, homes and the community. Social workers often work in the following environments:
- hospitals and medical clinics
- mental health facilities
- government agencies
- military bases
- prisons and correctional facilities
